从本地服务器xampp/sendmail发送电子邮件

我已经建立了一个本地托管的PHP网站。其中一个功能是发送购物车中的项目电子邮件。在在线测试时，email()函数可以完美地发送电子邮件。
现在我正在将网站转移到本地机器上，但无法发送电子邮件。最初的电子邮件来自servername@hostname.co.uk，效果很好，虽然我很乐意设置gmail或类似的服务来处理发送。
我已经阅读了一些有关设置的教程，并首先尝试使用sendmail和gmail地址。
